is not surprising to see the Hustlers performing well in the ongoing Big
League division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament,
as two of their players are leading in two categories as of April 19.
Nunu Kapileo kept the No. 1 spot on the batting leaders list as he went
16-for-23 for a .696 batting average in the Hustlers 6-1 record.
The Aztecs Smith Regis moved from fifth to second place with a .545
batting average. In six games, Regis was 12-for-22 at the plate.
Three Fielders sluggers complete the top five batting leaders with
Bill Fleming in third going 13-for-27 (.481 average), Cadez Tenorio posting
13-for-28 (.464) and Shane Mendiola hitting 11-for-24 (.458).
Shane Yamada had the most runs with 13, while Tenorio and Regis had 12
and nine runs, respectively.
The Aztecs Willy Joe Techur, who was eighth in the batting race,
and DJ Omar scored the most doubles with five each, while Mendiola and
Martin Pangelinan led in triples with three apiece.
Only six homers have been hit so far with Jesus Iguel, Mendiola, Yamada,
Pangelinan, Joel Satur and Darren Pua hitting one each.
Mendiola led the league in RBIs with 13, while Kapileo and Daryl Brennan
had 10 and nine, respectively.
The Hustlers pitcher, John Mafnas, posted a 1.56 ERA to strengthen his
hold on the top spot in the pitching leaders.
In six games, he pitched 27 innings and allowed 31 hits. Only six runs
were scored against him.
The Aztecs Nicolas San Nicolas remained in second place with a 2.79
ERA, followed by the Fielders Brandon Santos (6.89) and the Angels
Leeroy Dela Cruz (9.33).
San Nicolas had the most strikeouts with 47.
