By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staff

FIVE young ladies are competing for this year’s Liberation Queen title, according to the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
Three of the candidates were presented to the media on Wednesday and it was the first time they met each other, according to one of them, Rosario C. Peter, a graduate of Marianas High School.
The other candidates are Janelle D. Reyes, Francine S. Borja, Queena K. Fitial and Darian Renee M. Indalecio.
Fitial and Indalecio were not able to show up for Wednesday’s media conference, but the rest of the candidates were introduced to reporters by Mayor Juan B. Tudela.
The 2007 Liberation Queen title will go to the candidate that sells the most tickets, according to Liberation Day committee chairwoman Tina Pangelinan.
The funds raised will be used for public services.
Peter said in a telephone interview yesterday that she was excited about the presentation because she had the chance to meet the other candidates.
She said it was her dream to be crowned Liberation Queen, and she’s hopeful that the dream will soon become a reality.
Peter said she and the rest of the candidates will be promoting partnership between the government and the community in achieving goals that are beneficial to all.
She expects to meet a lot of people in the community and the business sector while they raise funds for public services.
This year’s Liberation Day festivities will be held from June 1 to 8, according to Pangelinan.
