THIS weekend,
12 paddlers from Outrigger Guam Canoe Club will join Saipan Outrigger
Canoe Club in the second ever crossing by canoe from Saipan
to Tinian.
The Saipan Outrigger Canoe Club is a non-profit outrigger club that was
established in 1999 and is one of three clubs located on Saipan. Saipan
Outrigger Canoe Clubs primary goal is to promote the sport of outrigger
canoe racing to the Northern Marianas Islands and the crossing from Saipan
to Tinian is a perfect way to do that. All paddlers will launch from Kilili
Beach Saturday at 6 a.m.
The crews plan to exit the reef at Sugar Dock, paddle along the West side
of Tinian and all the way to the South side of Tinian. The paddlers will
trek approximately 22 miles.
The paddlers will then stay overnight in Tinian in order to take part in
the Tinian Fiesta. The paddlers will then begin their 22 mile adventure
back to Saipan early Sunday morning. The next major challenge will
be the Dragons Triangle Challenge that is scheduled as of now for
June 9.
For anyone who is an outrigger canoeing fan this event should be one not
to miss. For more information on these clubs events log on to ogccguam.com
