Compact Review
Commission members will fly to Washington to meet with United States government
officials for discussion of the Compact of Free Association.
The meeting with officials is expected to complete the commissions
preparation to complete its recommendations for the Compact renegotiating
team.
At the same time the commission said that it is now reviewing the Compact
and all 12 Subsidiary Agreements.
In a press statement the CRC said that commission is now in the middle
of its review of the Compact.
The commission is also reviewing the recommendations from the National
Economic Symposium , the meetings with government officials and agencies
and public sectors including other numerous documents.
The statement added that last year, the commission conferred with the
governments of Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall
Islands, the Commonwealth of Mariana Islands, Guam and Hawaii on Compact
impact and other issues.
The statement added that CRC members will be meeting with United States
government officials in Washington DC to reaffirm Palaus relationship
with the US.
The meeting is set before the commission submit its report this July.
The commission is set to meet with the US government officials, in Congress
and the Executive Branch in Washington DC on May 8 to 9.
CRC members will also attend the annual Palau and US bilateral economic
consultation with President Remengesau and key staff on May 10.
On May 11, commission members with the president will meet more US government
officials and on May 12 the members will meet with a group of Palauans
from Washington.
The press statement added that the commission will also meet with Pacific
Island leaders who will be attending the Pacific Island Conference of
leaders meeting in the US.
