Taiwan injects over $1M into regional dev’t

SUVA (Pacnews) — Eight Pacific regional organizations have received $1,023,291 from Taiwan as part of an aid package covering 29 projects.
The funds were released by Taiwan’s trade representative in Suva, Fiji, Sherman Kuo, at a handover ceremony held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
The Taiwan assistance to regional organizations was originally announced last October at the 14th Taiwan-Forum Countries Dialogue, held in Nadi, Fiji.
The eight beneficiary organizations are part of the Council of Regional Organizations of the Pacific. They include the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency, Fiji School of Medicine, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Secretariat of the Pacific Community, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program, South Pacific Board for Educational Assessment, Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission and the University of the South Pacific.
