NMC
student completes internship with MVA
(MVA) Northern
Marianas College intern Sylvia Leon Guerrero completed her 3-month long
internship with the Marianas Visitors Authority on April 26.
In partnership with NMC students who are studying tourism and hospitality
courses are able to gain first-hand experience working with various projects
in all the divisions of MVA.
Before interning here, I had no idea of the complexity of the divisions
and the massive multi-tasking that takes place in this agency, stated
Leon Guerrero. I enjoyed my experiences and learned from each of
the divisions, but I have to say I like the Research Division the most.
Leon Guerrero learned the ways in which MVA measured the flow of tourists
to the island. I was amazed at the detail in the information that
was collected!
Working at the Xterra was the greatest reward and highlight of Leon Guerreros
internship. The preparation, the coordination, and all the work
that goes into planning and execution is astounding. To see the success
after months of massive planning and hard work was amazing, stated
Leon Guerrero.
Leon Guerrero is pursuing an associate of applied science degree in hospitality
management and business management. She is expected to graduate from Northern
Marianas College in spring 2008.
We are happy to offer this type of training and we hope that the
on the-job-training and experience with MVA has given her new insight
into our local and global tourism industry, said MVA Managing Director
Perry Tenorio.
Leon Guerrero said she does not leave her experience with MVA empty handed.
This internship was a great success! I leave with a wealth of knowledge
and a greater appreciation of the industry and the role that MVA plays.
