THE Liberation Day Organizational Committee’s Queen Committee will hold a pageant to find the 2007 Liberation Queen, instead of selling of tickets. Those who have always wanted to sit atop a big beautiful float in the Liberation Day Queen Committee now have the chance to compete.
According to a statement from the committee, a woman from each village will be chosen as queen of that village and will represent her village in the 1st Liberation Queen pageant. The 2007 Miss Liberation Queen will lead the 63rd anniversary of Guam’s Liberation.
Contestants will have to be 16 through 25 years old and can fill out an application at their mayor’s office or at the Mayors Council of Guam’s office in Hagatna. The deadline to sign up is 5 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2007.
Contestants will be judged on character, poise, personality, intelligence, charm and previous, currant or future community service, according to the committee website.
There will be a panel of five judges whom will score the contestants on the aforementioned requirements starting at one being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
According to the committee Web site, during the pageant they will search for a Miss Liberation Day Queen, Miss Liberation Day Royal Princess, Miss Liberation Day first-runner up and a Miss Liberation Day second runner-up.
The winners will receive various gifts, a floral boquet, and a tiara. The Miss Liberation Day Queen, Royal Princess, and First-Runner up will receive money which will be donated to their village mayor’s office.
The Queen will also get one off-island trip with the Guam Visitors Bureau and special promotional appearances scheduled by GVB, according to the Web site.
The committee is also looking for a Little Miss Liberation Queen. Girls who are 6 to 11 years old can sign up at their mayor’s office, at the Mayor’s Council office, or at the Central Files division at the Governor’s Complex in Adelup.
This contest has not changed, the girls will have to choose a non-profit organization or a foundation as a sponsor. The candidates will have to sell tickets. The girl with the most tickets sold will be crowned 2007 Little Miss Liberation Queen. The winning girls sponsor will receive 25-percent of the ticket sales. The deadline for Little Miss candidates to sign up is 5 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2007.
Rules and regulations for both contests can also be downloaded for submission on the 63rd Liberation Day Organizational Committee’s Website at www.liberation2007.guam.gov.
