UNDEFEATED no more.
The Falcons handed the Jets their first loss in the Seniors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament as the former posted a 9-2 victory last Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
The Falcons shutout the Jets in the first five innings to share the top spot with their victims. The Falcons and the Jets now have identical 7-1 slates.
League-leading pitcher Marley Techur pitched six complete innings and in the opening part of the seventh allowed only two hits, walking two and giving up one run. He had 11 strikeouts.
With Techur as effective as ever on the mound, the Falcons took a 7-0 lead after five complete innings.
The Jets broke their silence at the bottom of the sixth with Juan Iguel scoring on a Jonathan Salas single. But the Jets failed to score again in that inning as Techur struck out two batters and centerfielder Ben Leon Guerrero was beaten to second base.
After a shutout at the top of the sixth, the Falcons recovered at the top of the seventh scoring two runs to up their lead to eight, 9-1.
Techur hit a single at the top of the seventh driving Juan Tenorio, Jr. home. The Falcons pitcher later reached home plate on a Vicente Cabrera single.
At the bottom of the seventh, the Jets scored only one run to end their winning streak atseven.
In other results, the Warriors downed the Ol’Aces, 16-11 improving their record to 2-7. The Ol’Aces remain winless in nine games in the Juniors division.
In the Big League game last Thursday, the Hustlers edged the Fielders, 4-3.
