THE Senoritas
made short work of the Island Girls notching an 11-4 victory after only
five innings in the 2007 Island-wide Womens Slow-pitch Softball
League last Friday at the Miguel Tan Ge Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
K. Pangelinan scored the winning run on a Nadia Saralu single.
Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Senoritas were leading 10-4,
and needed only one run for a seven-run win rule.
Pangelinan was the leadoff batter and hit a triple. She then reached home
after Saralu hit a single.
The Senoritas controlled the game from start to finish with a six-run
third inning giving them a 10-3 lead.
Neither team was able to score in the fourth inning.
At the top of the fifth, the Island Girls had only one run, hurting their
chances to recover.
Tiara Lieto was the leadoff batter for the Island Girls and advanced to
first on a Senoritas error.
G. Maratita was next at bat and moved to first base, while Lieto was thrown
out as she was beaten to third base.
Island Girls right fielder Arcy Moncrief flied out for the second out,
while leftfielder L. Guerrero moved to first on a fielders choice
and later advanced to second on a Jovie Omar single.
Omars single also drove Maratita home.
But that was the Island Girls last stand, as pitcher Bego Camacho
was beaten to first base.
Pangelinan and Saralu both went 3-for-3 at the plate. Pangelinan had three
runs, two singles and a triple, while Saralu also scored three runs and
had three singles.
Omar paced the Island Girls going 2-for-3 with one run and two singles.
Maratita was also 2-for-3 with two runs and two singles. Guerrero scored
the other run for the Island Girls in the first inning.
In the mens division, Got Pugua nipped Camacho Roots, 6-5.
Got Pugua played tough defense in the outfield at the top of the seventh
to foil a Camacho Roots comeback.
Both teams had a three-run sixth inning, but with Got Pugua shutting out
Camacho Roots in the third, fourth and fifth inning, the former was ahead
by a point, entering the top of the seventh.
Camacho Roots first three batters all flied out, ending their chances
to steal the game.
