CUSTOMS broke
into the win column in the 2007 Inter-government Basketball League after
defeating the Department of Corrections, 84-69, last Thursday at the Gilbert
C. Ada Gym.
Hotshot John Sablan exploded for 37 points to give Customs its first win
in four games. Corrections absorbed its fifth loss in as many games.
Customs used a 23-10 scoring surge in the third quarter to break the game
wide open en route to a 15-point win.
Corrections held its ground against Customs in the first half with the
latter down by only two points at the end of the first quarter, 18-20.
Simada Iramk, who had two triples in the first quarter, had only two points
in the second period, but Greg Blas and Daniel Joab were there to keep
Corrections afloat.
Blas and Joab combined for 10 of Corrections 20 points in the second
period, which ended with Customs still leading by only two, 40-38.
But that was the closest that Corrections could get, as Sablan sparked
a Customs scoring spree in the third period hitting nine straight
points.
Sablan had 15 points in the third quarter alone giving Customs a 63-48
lead.
Customs never looked back from thereon with Sablan adding seven more points
in the fourth period.
In the second game, All Out bounced back from a 62-100 loss to the Office
of the Public Auditor with an 83-71 win over the Ports Police.
All Out improved to a 3-1 record, while the Ports Police dropped to a
1-4 slate.
It was come-from-behind win for All Out, which was down by eight at halftime,
32-24.
After scoring 21 points in the first period, All Out was held to three
points in the second quarter, while the Ports Police nailed 11 points
to take an eight-point lead after the first half.
Kevin Deleon Guerrero drilled eight of his 18 points in the third period
to move All Out to within one, 41-42, entering the crucial final canto.
All Out continued their uphill climb in the fourth quarter, as each player
it fielded in the game found ways to score.
Deleon Guerrero and Dominique Hideo and Donald Taitano had eight points
apiece, while Jesse Stole added seven and topscored for All Out with 19
markers.
