A FORMER Guam senator assumed
her duties yesterday as Northern Marianas Colleges new president.
Dr. Carmen Fernandez was on the As Terlaje campus where she met with employees
and some of the students.
I officially start today my term as president of NMC, she
said in an interview. It was a very productive first day as I started
the morning by meeting the management team, employees and students.
Fernandez also attended her first cabinet meeting at the administration
building on Capital Hill.
I also went over to the governors office where I got the chance
to meet cabinet officials including Education Commissioner David Borja
and the governors special adviser on education, Dan Nielsen,
she said.
According to Fernandez, We agreed to work together and I was able
to get a confirmation on the grant for adult basic education for continued
funding of over $200,000.
Fernandez said she will make a courtesy visit to the Legislature today.
During a meeting with Finance Secretary Eloy Inos, Fernandez said she
got a commitment on funding for NMC administrative positions.
These positions are an accreditation concern and I was happy to
get the finance secretarys commitment that NMC will be provided
needed funding for these positions, she said.
Fernandez described her first day as a wonderful experience.
I am so honored and today was a wonderful experience. Everyone was
really supportive of NMC, she said.
