Governor meets with visiting Kumho executives

(GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial and representatives of various government departments met with visiting Kumho Asiana executives in the governor’s conference room on Friday afternoon, despite the austerity holiday, a media release from his office stated.
Fitial called the meeting to discuss how the CNMI government can work together to help facilitate the success of Kumho Asiana’s investment in the CNMI and attract more South Korean tourists into the islands.
The government agencies represented in the meeting included the CNMI’s custom and immigration departments, along with the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Department of Public Lands.
High ranking executives of the multi-billion dollar Kumho Asiana conglomerate are on island to hold a board meeting and meet with the Fitial administration to discuss their plans for the CNMI.
The group recently purchased the Laolao Bay Golf Resort and introduced new flights into the CNMI.
On May 27, Fitial plans to sign a “Kumho Asiana Day” proclamation in honor of the new day flights introduced by Kumho Asiana.
The governor is also calling on the Legislature to pass a resolution declaring May 27 Kumho Asiana Day, in honor of the South Korean company’s commitment to our islands.
In the meeting with Kumho Asiana and government agencies, Fitial emphasized the importance of supporting Kumho’s projects and meeting its needs to help bring about economic recovery in the CNMI. “This is the only way to restore our government employees’ pay and keep people employed,” said the governor.
Fitial recently highlighted Kumho Asiana’s multi-million dollar investment development plans for the CNMI, including the construction of condominiums along the Laolao Bay Golf Resort in Kagman.
