TODAY is the last day for eligible earned income tax credit recipients to file for their claims for tax years 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2000 and partake of the $15 million set aside by the government for those tax periods, Department of Revenue and Taxation director Art Ilagan said yesterday.
Ilagan said the DRT office will be open until 6 p.m. to accept filing applications from EITC claimants who wish to be covered by the $90 million compromise deal that settled a 2004 class action against the government.
Under the settlement agreement, the processing of claims for tax years 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2001 must be completed on June 18.
The Department of Administration earlier said the distribution of EITC checks for the first batch of claimants collecting for tax years 1997 and 1998 was almost complete. Of the $10 million earmarked by the government for partial EITC payout, only about $1 million were left uncollected, according to DOA.
