HOW is it that
we got stuck with Felix Camacho for another term? Half a year later, I
am still confounded by the fact that the people of Guam voted for Camacho
again and with a running mate who doesnt know the first thing about
running a government other than how to use it for his own personal gain;
Mike Cruz has true mastery of that skill.
Not only does Camacho lack charisma and leadership quality; he is by and
large ignorant of the issues that assail his island. Why? Because he is
seldom here mentally or physically. He is always jetting off to
the States and elsewhere for non-existent government business.
Camacho simply stares into the camera lens with a vacant look in his eyes,
indicative of the mental void that occupies his laurelled head. This is
the image we are presented with time after time our governor makes an
appearance on the news to explain executive response or opinion on the
issue at hand. He has provided no agenda to address the educational debacle
our island now faces nor has he put forward a cogent plan to lift our
island out debt.
Camacho simply takes up space in our government and collects a plump salary
for doing it for doing absolutely nothing. Camacho would be more
useful as an attraction at the primate house in the local zoo than he
is as a governor then again it would he inhumane to force the apes
and chimps to share their habitat with a creature so profoundly stupid.
Lt. Gov. Mike Cruz is no better and has quickly taken after Camachos
lead, taking needless trip after needless trip at the taxpayers
expense. Doctors do not make for good civil servants, especially when
they are still practicing medicine. How is it possible that Dr. Cruz can
be both a surgeon and a lieutenant governor simultaneously? The answer
is that he cannot.
The fact that he openly claims he can do both makes a mockery of the office
he holds, which is a full-time job. Being lieutenant governor is a full-time
job serving the people of Guam; a job that Cruz clearly does not take
seriously by thinking he can still be a doctor on the side.
Make a decision Cruz! If you want to be a doctor, then be a doctor. If
you want to be a lieutenant governor, then be one, but stop carrying on
like you are able to do both. The fact that he is in the National Guard
is yet another example of Cruz spreading himself too thin. He reminds
me of a boy scout who is trying to earn every possible merit badge so
that he can proudly display them all on his sash. Yet he seems entirely
unconcerned with the level of quality his work has assumed in any of his
many roles.
I can assure you I would no sooner go under his dull scalpel than I would
have him serve our islands interests as a competent and dedicated
lieutenant governor. His mediocrity as both a surgeon and a public servant
are inexorable eventualities owing to his greed to acquire titles and
accomplishments with only a modest regard for the responsibility implied
by them.
Camacho and Cruz truly are the clown princes of our government, and I
am sure they will continue to amaze us with their foolish antics and pretenses
to serious leadership for the next four years. With such feckless leaders
we can all be assured that Guam will see no improvement whatsoever attributable
to their efforts.
Camacho and Cruz have promised us four more years of stagnation and perhaps
even a touch of recidivism. Until 2010, we the people of Guam must rely
upon ourselves and a select few of our trusted government officials to
get things done right. If we stick together, we can survive typhoon Camacho-Cruz.
The next few years will be tough, but happier days are ahead!
