President Remengesau
on Wednesday issued a Presidential Proclamation honoring the Palau Red
Cross Society volunteers, workers , donors who have helped in the organizations
projects over the last 10 years.
The proclamation was also issued coinciding with the 10 year anniversary
of service of the organization.
According to presidential proclamation No. 07-81, on Nov. 20, 1997, PRCS
started its service to Palau and within the span of 10 years the organization
have assisted and organized many critical relief and assistance projects
such as the Fire Victim Assistance Program, Blood Donor Database and Drive
Services; Assistance to Members of the Armed Forces; Community First Aid
and Safety classes; Assistance to Public Authorities in cases of natural
or other disasters and assistance with families of servicemen.
The president said that PRCS has also come to the aid of other nations
by collecting contributions on disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, Yap
Typhoon Relief Drive in 2004 and the Papua New Guinea Tsunami Relief Effort
in July-August 1998.
The proclamation said the celebration will commence on May 4 with a walkathon
event and will end on Nov. 20, 2007 which is the 10th anniversary of the
PRCS.
"The citizens of Palau should continue to give until it hurts
to support the excellent and necessary projects of the Red Cross,"
the proclamation said.
