The United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development recently awarded $10,000 to the Palau Housing Authority- Mutual Self-Help Housing Program to prepare a final application for the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program in the next few months.
This program will grant the funding to the Palau Housing Authority to qualify 20 potential homeowners to participate in the self-help project that will be initiated in the respective states that has been identified. The homeowners will qualify for a mortgage from USDA and then work together to build each other’s home under the direction of the Palau Housing Authority.
Qualifying for this program will depend on the income, credit history, and ability to contribute 30 hours of work a week to build the homes. Families must be able to contribute a buildable lot through approved lease or fee simple.
