Six teams have
joined the four-day Jailhouse Rock 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the
Koror national jail.
The tournament is for the inmates to join in the celebration of Senior
Citizens Day on May 5.
The six teams are AIRIB composed of Silverio, Darius, Sam ben, Brian and
Uldak; BLUE CORNER (Franky, Burton, Brother, Robinson, Blaluk, suki);
ZORRO (Valent, Sheldon, Ashley, Archer, Kennon, Perney); HATZZ (Dars,
Keylord, Robin, Usoch, Raymond, Ngibtal); Bloes (Israel, Toribiong, Marlone,
Isimang, Ricky); OLEK ALII (Godwin, Nioch, Jayson, Iyar, Jimmy, Liverio).
On Wednesday, Blue Corner edged out Hatzz, 21-20 while Zorro tripped Airib.
As of press time yesterday, Olek Alii was going up against Bloes and Blue
Corner and Zorro taking each other. The championship match I set today.
The organizers said that the goals of this program is to provide sports
opportunities for the inmates, to help them with their rehabilitation
and to use sports as an initiative program that shows that there are people
who care for them.
That there are people who love them and want the best for them so they
need to change their attitudes and perspectives and follow the rules of
the community to help others in need for the betterment of all.
Darius B. Ellis said that they are collecting money from the other inmates
to make a $50 pledge to be given to the Senior Citizens through the help
of the Palau Basketball Federation.
"On behalf of the inmates, I want to extend our warmest greetings
to all senior citizens," he said.
PNOC through the Sports outreach program has donated a trophy, PBF (used
and new molten basketballs, and all the players donated money for the
senior citizens.
The tournament is also supported by chief Ringang of the Division of Corrections.
