THE San Antonio Dragons caught a big fish in the As Matuis Twins, while the Matrix, Ol’Aces II and the Hustlers posted easy victories in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Sunday at the Miguel "Basa" Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Dragons, who are in 13th place in the team standings in the 16-team field, stunned the sixth placer Twins, 18-16, in six complete innings.
After five and a half innings, the Dragons led by three and were hoping that the Twins would not make a last inning rally.
Their prayers were answered as the Twins scored only one run and dropped to a 6-4 record absorbing their second straight loss.
The Dragons improved to a 2-7 slate.
Jonathan Inacio pitched for the Dragons at the bottom of the sixth replacing Jerome Reyes. Inacio allowed four hits and walked on.
Inacio all did well on offense hitting 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs, two doubles and an RBI.
Jean Ngeskebei also helped the Dragon’s cause hitting 3-for-5 and scoring three runs and an inside-the-park homer. She had two singles and five RBIs.
In other results, the Matrix clobbered the Little Legals, 21-6.
Second baseman LJ Hemley went 4-for-5 with four runs, three singles and a triple, while first baseman Frankie Blas was 3-for-4 with three runs, a single, a double and a triple.
Ray Saralu pitched for the Hustlers in three innings and had eight strikeouts in their 12-2 win over the San Vicente A’s.
AJ Lizama and Austin both went 2-for-3. AJ had one run, two singles and one triple, while Austin also scored one run and made a single and a triple.
The Ol’Aces II also cruised to an easy victory whipping the Ol’Aces I, 14-2, after only four innings.
The Ol’Aces II shut out the Ol’Aces I in the first three innings en route to their eighth win in 10 games.
Ben Diaz and Caleb Arriola were perfect at the plate with the former going 2-for-2 and the latter hitting 3-for-3. Arriola had three runs, a single, a double and a triple, while Diaz had scored two runs and had a triple and a double.
Juniors: Hustlers 9, Fielders 5
The Hustlers handed the Fielders their first loss in the Juniors division after pulling off a 9-5 victory after only sixth and a half innings.
After six complete innings, the Hustlers were leading by four, 9-5.
The Fielders, who dropped to an 8-1 record, were at bat at the top of the seventh and were shut out. Their first two batters flied out, while third batter James Lizama was beaten to second base.
Seniors: Jets 13, Hustlers 9
In the Senior League, the Jets recovered from a 2-9 loss to the Falcons last Saturday with a 13-9 triumph over the Hustlers at the Francisco "Tan Ko" Palacios Ballfield.
