THE G-Strings
and the Sonics ruled the "PTI Street Basketball Jam" last Saturday
at the Civic Center basketball court in Susupe.
The G-Strings bested three other teams in the co-ed 14-and-under division,
while the Sonics beat seven other teams in the 18-and-under division.
The G-Strings claimed the 14-and-under championship after downing the
Sonics 2 in the finals, 11-10.
Mike Bondoc drilled a triple in the last 50 seconds of the game to lift
the G-Strings to a one-point win.
The Sonics were still leading by a point, 10-9, in the last minute of
the match when Bondoc with the 24-shot clock running out, pulled off a
triple at the top of the key for the game-winning basket.
With 30 seconds remaining on the clock, the Sonics had a chance to regain
the lead, but muffed two inside baskets.
When the G-Strings grabbed the rebound, they ran out the time to secure
the win.
The 3-on-3 caging was a fundraiser for the Marianas March Against Cancer.
The participating teams played a single round elimination. The team to
score 15 points first or the squad with the highest score after 12 minutes
would win the game. Each team was awarded two points for a triple, while
other baskets were equivalent to a point.
Other members of the G-Strings were Rainier Deleon Guerrero, Brandon Aurelio,
Dino Palacios and JR Concepcion.
The two others teams that played in the 14-and-under division were Fan
Try and the Sonics 1.
The Sonics topped the 18-and-under division after defeating No Fear in
the finals.
The Sonics were composed of Mike Eclevia, Jon Lim, Jason Bahillo, Jeff
Pagarao and Manuel Ajoste.
Other teams that competed in the 18-and-under division were the Rocsteady
Ballers, G-Rollers, G-Units, OlAces, 670 and Ree Hee.
