Public forum on accountability, good governance

THE next public forum will be held this Thursday, May 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Northern Marianas College, Room D-1.
The theme for this week’s forum is “Accountability and Good Governance.”
The following items will be reviewed and discussed:
• A popular initiative that will apply the Open Government Act to all commonwealth legislators, as well as general information about the Open Government Act;
• A popular initiative to amend the Constitution so that a majority vote is required for governor and lt. governor
• A draft questionnaire for all candidates running for office this year, that will request, among other things, information related to their qualifications and positions on a range of issues, including the economy, education, healthcare, utilities, and the environment;
• An upcoming petition for precinct reapportionment; and
• Updates on the recent request for full disclosure of expenditures to the members of the 15th Legislature.
A list of priority action items to present to elected officials and candidates running for office this year will also be prepared.
Elected officials will be expected to effectively address these issues over the next two years, and their accomplishments will be evaluated in 2009.
Anyone interested in assisting with any of all of the above issues can e-mail tinasablan@gmail.com or call Tina Sablan at 233-0770.
