Variety News Staff

SATURDAY was a day full of middle school rugby. Young rugby players gathered from six different schools to participate in the games that went throughout the morning. In the first match-up of the day for the boys, Saint Francis 1 took on Saint Johns. Saint Johns would take the victory, winning 26-24.
In the next game Saint Francis 2 would take on Bishop 1 with Bishop getting the 26-19 victory. Southern Christian Academy would then roll over the Bishop 3 team as they won 33-12. With games going every twenty minutes there was plenty of fresh action for rugby fans. In the fourth game of the day Santa Barbara would decimate Bishop 2, 47-17.
The next match would be a bit closer with Saint Francis 1 playing their second game of the day against Southern Christian Academy. Southern Christian Academy would win in a close match 31-26. Bishop 1 would then get revenge on Santa Barbara for defeating their second team earlier in the day when they won 33-28. Saint Johns would then go on to beat Bishop’s third team 35-12. Saint Francis’ second team would roll over Bishop’s second team 38-25.
At the same time on the opposite field the Bishop team would defeat Saint Francis 38-33. Saint Johns would then defeat Saint Francis 2, 35-24, while Santa Barbara got their second victory of the day as they beat Southern Christian Academy 34-24.
In the last match of the day two Bishop teams would square off against each other as the Bishop 2 team defeated the Bishop 3 team 38-12. The Boy’s weren’t the only teams playing on Saturday; the middle school rugby girls were taking part in their own match-ups as well. The Bishop 1 team would follow the suit of their male counterparts and win all their match-ups of the day. They would begin the day defeating Saint Johns 31-20. In the second game the Bishop 2 team would beat the Saint Paul’s team in a very close match as they squeezed out the victory winning 26-24.
In the third match Saint Francis defeated Saint Johns 38-20. In the fourth game two Bishop teams would face each other as Bishop 1 defeated Bishop 2, 27-10. Saint Francis would then proceed to annihilate Saint Paul as they won 57-12.
Bishop would then follow up and defeat Saint Paul as well winning 28-19. Saint Francis would cap the girls day off defeating the Bishop 2 team 45-12. Next Saturday will be the last regular season matches before the playoffs.
