THE Guam Police Department
was not ready to roll over dead Monday night as they defeated the Isa
Aqua Defenders in the first of a double elimination match-up.
The Defenders who defeated the Police Department earlier in the tournament
were in the drivers seat heading into Monday night as the Guam Police
Department had to defeat the Defenders twice in order to take the championship.
The first game is now out of the way, evening up the series at 1-1, setting
the stage for the game to be played on Friday night for the DPR-Gatorade
GovGuam Basketball League Championship. On Monday the Police Department
was led by their equal offensive attack with their high scorer, Danny
Cepeda scoring only 13 points in the win. Kurt Sanchez would also add
in another 12 points as the Guam Police Department took the win 56-54.
The Guam Police Department would lead going into halftime 37-29 but the
Defenders would prove why they were the team to beat as they got back
into the game and would bring the game within two points with seconds
remaining on the clock. Despite the efforts of Jose Marquez and Larry
Ferjan who had 11 points a piece the Defenders would fall short.
The Defenders will now be looking to make the statement that the Guam
Police Department win was the last this year. The Guam Sports Complex
will be the stage for the Championship game on Friday at 7:00 pm.
