NMC Proa claimed
the top seeding in Pool A, while the Department of Community and Cultural
Affairs and the Office of the Public Auditor will square off for the No.
1 spot in Pool B following their wins in the 2007 Inter-government Basketball
League.
Proa swept the six games in the regular season after downing defending
champion Tinian last Friday, 78-70, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Tony Diaz led Proas victory drilling 22 points, while big men Kelvin
Fitial and Mel Manibusan added 12 markers apiece, combining for eight
of their teams last 10 points to hand Tinian its first defeat.
With the win, Proa automatically drew a bye in the single-elimination
playoffs and claimed a semis spot in Pool A.
The crossover playoffs in the government caging will start on Monday with
the No. 2 team in Pool A meeting the No. 7 squad in Pool B and vice versa
in the first round .Other pairings will be No. 3-6 and No. 4 vs No. 5.
The 12 other teams in the 14-team field will fight for the two remaining
semis berths starting on Monday
OPA and DCCA will battle for the second semis ticket this Friday, as they
were the only unbeaten teams in Pool B.
OPA improved to a 4-0 record after whipping the Department of Public Works/Procurement&
Supply, 103-70, last Friday.
Ton Borja paced Tinian with 29 points, while John Santos contributed 18
markers.
DCCA claimed its fifth win in as many games after clobbering All Out last
Monday, 104-78.
Taj Van Buren hit five triples and finished with 29 points, while Elias
Rangamar also drilled five treys and had 24 points.
In other results last Monday, Luta pounded Customs, 101-46, to notch its
fourth win in five matches. Customs dropped to a 1-4 record.
Luta is now in second place in Pool A.
In fourth place are the Airport Police Firefighters, which have a 2-2
record. The Firedawgs were playing Customs yesterday aiming for their
third win. The results of the match were unavailable at press time.
Also playing last night were OPA and the DPS Enforcers
The Public School System is in fifth place in Pool A with a 1-3 slate,
while Customs is in the sixth spot with a 1-4 record.
The Department of Corrections are winless in five games and will play
its last match tomorrow against the Firedawgs.
In Pool B, DPW/P&S and the All Out are tied for second place with
3-2 records.
The DPS Enforcers and the Ports Police have identical 1-4 slates, while
the Legislature is at the bottom of the team standings with a 0-5 record.
Tonight, Luta takes on Customs in the Pool A match, while DPW/P&S
and the All Out part ways in the Pool B game.
