THE Ol’Aces won the battle of undefeated teams in the SAIPANCELL/BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League escaping past the Sonics, 69-68, last Sunday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Pelisamen scored 35 points, including the Ol’Aces’ last seven points to give his team a one-point win.
The Ol’Aces gained their fourth win in as many games, while the Sonics dropped to a 3-1 record.
It was the third straight game that Pelisamen scored 30 plus points. Against the Garapan Rollers on April 14, Pelisamen fired 32 points. On April 28, he drilled 31 markers in the Ol’Aces 87-73 victory against Hi-Five.
The Ol’Aces and the Sonics battled neck and neck with neither team able to lead by more than six points.
The first quarter ended with the Ol’Aces up by only one, 21-20, despite Pelisamen’s 14-point explosion.
Pelisamen was held to six points in the second period, as the Sonics took the driver’s seat, 38-37.
Pelisamen struggled anew at the start of the second half hitting only four points. But his teammates stepped up and the Ol’Aces regained the lead, 52-51, entering the final period.
The Ol’Aces gunner almost single-handedly carried the load for his team in the fourth quarter scoring 11 of the Ol’Aces’ 17 points in the payoff canto to hand the Sonics their first loss.
Only Ralph Magofna and Leeroy Rangamar nailed fieldgoals for the Ol’Aces drilling one basket apiece.
In other results, the Cyclones recovered from their loss to the Sonics with an 86-80 win over the Cholos last Saturday, while the Hoopaholics topped the G-Rollers, 100-91.
KC Yangilmaw topscored for the Cyclones with 21 points, hitting 14 of his total production in the fourth quarter.
The game was still tied at 61-all at the end of the third period, when Yangilmaw made his move to improve the Cyclones record to 4-1.
In the first game last Sunday, the Hoopaholics drew 20 points from Derrick Omengangae to nail a nine-point win over the G-Rollers and notch their third victory in five games.
