SENATOR Henry H. San Nicolas will seek reelection in November.
San Nicolas, Covenant-Tinian, said he has yet to submit his letter of intent to the chairman of the party, Al Santos, “but I am really interested in running for another term with the endorsement of the party and with the blessing and support of the people of Tinian.”
He said there will be a meeting on Tinian at which he will formally announce his desire to run for another term.
“I have to run again because there’s still much to be accomplished for Tinian,” he said.
Besides San Nicolas, his party mate Rep. Edwin P. Aldan and two of the three incumbent municipal council members — chairman Francisco Q. Cruz and vice chairwoman Charlene M. Lizama — are also seeking another term.
Municipal members are nonpartisan candidates but they can be supported by political parties.
San Nicolas said despite the perceived “unpopularity” of the ruling Covenant Party, their group remains “intact.”
“In fact, we’re waiting for the overall chairman to call a meeting at least to discuss the future of candidates for this midterm elections. The party members, though very quiet at this time, are still intact on Tinian, Rota and Saipan,” he said.
San Nicolas said he wants to bring progress to the “children.”
“If we look at what is happening in the CNMI with all these companies closing down, I see the potential of Tinian with new investors interested in coming in, the wastewater project, the airport expansion and other improvements. By just seeing this potential, we will be seeing good fortune because that’s new money coming in. The improvement and success of Tinian mean success for the entire CNMI,” he said.
San Nicolas said because the future depends on the youth, “I want to bring a bright future to our children.”
San Nicolas himself has three children, ages 3, 2 and 1.
