(OFFICE OF
THE GOVERNOR) Employment is up, according to the March 2007
Current Employment Report.
When comparing the latest report to the December 2002 report, 4,870 private
sector jobs have been created in the last five years.
Overall employment has increased by 3,760 jobs for a total workforce of
59,780, the largest workforce on Guam since March 2001 when the workforce
numbered 60,200.
Were seeing a strengthening economy with more jobs and better
opportunities for our people, acting Gov. Michael W. Cruz
said in a statement. The private sector is growing under Governor
Camachos tenure and thats because of the effective partnership
he has forged with businesses.
In the last year alone, the job total from the payroll survey increased
by 1,050 from 58,730 jobs in March 2006.
The number of jobs recorded on the private sector payroll increased by
810 over the latest one-year period. Construction industry jobs accounted
for most of the private sector increase.
Government of Guam employment, which includes autonomous agencies and
the Guam Public School System, increased by 170 jobs over the previous
year.
Construction jobs account for the majority of the recent increase
with additional jobs in construction expected in the near future,
Department of Labor chief economist Gary Hiles said.
