GPD holds training

By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

THE Guam Police Department yesterday had business owners, their employees and members of the local media rappelling down buildings, shooting guns, investigating a crime scene, and conducting laser and radar enforcement all day as part of police “Training Day.”
GPD Lt. Kim Santos said members of the business community were invited to attend the various activities yesterday to experience what a day in the life of a Guam police officer is like.
The training started at 8 a.m. and went well into the afternoon.
Santos told Variety that the GPD Special Weapons and Tactics, or SWAT, team held a demonstration of their skills, including rappelling down a building.
Other activities included boat rides with GPD’s Marine Patrol, radar and laser enforcement with the Highway Patrol Division, a crime scene investigation with the Forensic Unit, and firearms training on Naval Station, according to Santos.
Training day is usually held a few days before the governor’s declaration of Police Week. The proclamation signing declaring next week as Police Week is set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the governor’s conference room in Adelup. Acting Gov. Michael Cruz will sign the proclamation.
