THE Institutional
Improvement and Sustainability Task Force of the University of Guam recommends
a realignment of the universitys organizational structure to make
it leaner, more efficient and responsive to the students needs.
UOG president Harold L. Allen created the task force last month to develop
a proposal that responds to the WASC Capacity and Preparatory Review recommendations,
and strengthens academic quality and student learning.
The task forces mission also includes the creation of a system that
positions the university to sustain educational effectiveness in
an environment of scarce resources.
The task force seeks to address six main topics: organizational alignment;
finance; educational effectiveness, academic quality and assessment; facilities
and support infrastructure; student service; and regional and local collaboration
and outreach.
So far, the task force has come up with initial recommendations on organizational
revamp.
Proposed modifications include grouping the research units under
a graduate dean, de-layering administrative structure, professional schools
report directly to the senior vice president, and moving Enrollment Management
under the vice president for Student Services, Enrollment Management and
Community Engagement, according to UOG.
According to the task forces briefing paper, the organizational
alignment is expected to result in educational effectiveness and academic
effectiveness, revenue growth and strategic reallocation of resources.
The task force, comprised of representatives from the universitys
major, faculty, staff, student and administration stakeholder groups,
is gathering additional input from the campus community as it presents
initial recommendations to employees this week in a series of presentations.
