THE Guam Waterworks
Authority is reminding the public that this weekends Fena reservoir
maintenance project conducted by the Navy will begin today and run through
Sunday.
According to the Navy, this shutdown may decrease the amount of water
supplied to GWA and will affect the villages of Agat, Piti, and Santa
Rita.
Navy housing residents living in North Tipalao and Lockwood may also be
affected by the plant being offline.
The Navy and its contractors have been working hard to minimize impacts
and the number of required outages caused by the plant shutdown. Previous
shutdowns resulted in minimal effect to residents because of these efforts.
But according to GWA, customers in the Nimitz Hill, Nimitz Estates and
Turner Road areas will be completely without water starting from 7 a.m.
Saturday, May 12, up to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 14.
GWA public information officer Heidi Ballendorf said GWAs system
cannot properly service the Nimitz area, which is why those areas will
be completely out of water during this time.
In addition, Ballendorf said another water outage is scheduled for Saturday,
May 12, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of Yigo from Rte 1 into Gayinero
Dr. to Route 15 and all areas between, including the Marianas Terrace
& Takano Subdivision.
GWA will replace a well production meter and well restoration valve for
the Yigo 3 well, which is near the old mayors office in Yigo.
