KFC beats Payless in overtime, 38-39 to gain second victory

By Kyle Terwilliger
Variety News Staff

LAST night the GHRA Basketball League saw some great action with two teams keeping their undefeated streak alive and a game that went into overtime to decide a winner. In the first game Mobil would be led by Jeff Manalastas and Jerry Torres who had a combined 30 of the teams 35 points.
Manalastas would score 16 and Torres would score 14 but that would not be enough to knock off WDI as Mobil fell 44-35. WDI was led by the scoring of Allino Gomez who sank 14 points as WDI improved to 2-1 on the season. The loss drops Mobil to 1-1.
In the second game of the night the undefeated PIC team was up against the 0-1 Sam Choy’s team. PIC would take the victory behind the 25 points scored by Reggie Rechebong. Sam Choy’s Spanles Hallers would have 13 points in the loss. With the win the PIC team keeps their undefeated streak as they move to 3-0 on the season.
Sam Choy’s takes its second loss of the season as they fall to 0-2 after the 52-41 loss. In the nights third game the Outrigger Guam team would defeat the Reef Hotel team by 60 points as they won 71-11. Jerome Delos Santos scored 26 of the 71 for Outrigger.
Chris Conlas would score all eleven points for Reef as they moved to 0-2 on the season. With the win Outrigger moves to 3-0 on the season. And in the nights final game the Payless Supermarket team would look for it’s first win, facing the 1-1 KFC/PacSports/Matson team.
The game’s regular two 20 minute halves would not be enough to settle this one as the game went into overtime the Payless team would see it’s win slip away as the KFC/PacSports/Matson team led by John Cruz and Jake Jesus would take it’s second victory on the season moving to 2-1.
The Payless team drops to 0-2 after the 39-38 loss in overtime. The Payless team was led by Paul Henry who put up ten points in the loss.
The GHRA Basketball League will continue with games this Saturday at the Tamuning Gym.
