The Palau High School schoolwide actions plan is made up of five points which will be implemented to gain accreditation from Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
The action plan is made up of two points which is teacher’s professional performance accountability; availability of assessment data; student progress tracking system; student reading, comprehension, writing and speaking English and creation of an academic vice principal.
Earlier PHS received an overwhelming positive comment from WASC following an on-site assessment of the school by the organization’s visiting team.
Among the recommendation of the visiting team is for the action plan to be implemented prior to the next visit of the WASC team.
The first action plan is to improve teacher’s performances and accountability with expected result that students learning process will be improved.
The second action plan is aimed to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to establish more frequent assessment of student and utilize scores to improve learning.
The third action plan is to effectively monitor individual student progress toward graduation.
Action no. 4 meanwhile is aimed at improving student’s skills and performances on reading, comprehending, writing and speaking English.
Action No.5 meanwhile calls for the creation of the position of an academic vice principal which will oversee and implement curriculum programs.
The Vice principal will also be tasked with the evaluation of various school programs to ensure effectiveness.
PHS after applying for WASC accreditation it has recently started a self -study process.
The self-study process "revolves around an in-depth gathering of evidence that will enable a school to take an honest look at what is and what is not working based upon the criteria and the expected schoolwide learning results. This verification is key to learning about the actual instruction experienced by students.".
