Father and son tandem triumphs in Tinian netfest; Reyes claims four titles

THE father and son tandem of Sonny and Benjie Decena led the winners in the 2007 San Jose Fiesta Tennis Tournament held over the weekend on Tinian.
Sonny and Benjie won the men’s 4.0 doubles beating Jonas Barcinas and Joe San Nicolas, 6-2, 6-2.
Sonny gained his second championship after winning over Benjie via default in the men’s 5.0 singles.
Other multiple winners in the Tinian Tennis Association-organized tournament were Corrie San Nicolas and Sue Reyes.
Corrie teamed up with Rolly Bugarin in downing Rigor Barit and Ernie Henson in the men’s 3.0 doubles finals, 8-4. The duo of Corrie and Bugarin were undefeated in four games.
Reyes topped the women’s 3.0 singles and also won in the women’s 3.0 doubles mixed 3.0 doubles and women’s 4.0 doubles.
Reyes topped Jennifer Uy in the women’s singles finals, 8-2.
In the women’s 3.0 doubles, she teamed up with Emy Bugarin in beating Deolinda Santos and Uy, 8-2.
Reyes then joined forces with Corrie in thwarting Barcinas and Linda Decena in the mixed 3.0 doubles.
Reyes claimed her fourth title when she and Linda Decena prevailed over Emily Kwon and Emy Bugarin in the women’s 4.0 doubles finals, 8-2.
In other results, Saipan’s Christian Miller beat Rigor Barit in the men’s 3.0 singles finals, 8-5, while Corrie San Nicolas took the men’s 4.0 singles crown after topping Barit, 8-5.
Kwon was crowned champion in the women’s 4.0 singles after outclassing Linda Decena, 9-7.
In the mixed 4.0 doubles, Joe San Nicolas and Linda Decena defeated Henson and Kwon, 8-6.
Trophies were awarded to the top two winners in the tournament.
Meanwhile, TTA thanked the Office of the Mayor, San Jose Fiesta Sports Committee, Tinian Youth Center and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs for supporting the annual netfest.
