YESTERDAY, the men and women
of the Guam Police Department were honored with a Mass at the Agana Cathedral
Basilica to kick off Police Week.
On Friday, acting Gov. Michael Cruz signed a proclamation declaring this
week as Police Week to honor and recognize the hard work of law enforcement
personnel.
We are proud to begin the celebration honoring what you do for us
on this island, Cruz told GPD personnel on Friday.
Police Week includes various ceremonies and training days, and will wrap
up with a police fair this Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chief of
Police courtyard in Tiyan.
Tomorrow, the annual Guam Police Department award ceremonies will be held
to present numerous awards to officers and GPD civilians who go above
and beyond to keep Guam residents safe. The most coveted award is the
Police Officer of the Year or the Civilian of the Year award.
GPD public information officer Allan Guzman, a former recipient of the
coveted award, said the award has never been given to an officer twice.
Also today, officers will hold a sunset command inspection/memorial services
at 4:30 p.m. to commemorate those who lost their lives in the line of
duty. This will be held at the Hagatna Precinct. Motorists are advised
to take alternate routes around the precinct at this time as some lanes
may be blocked off.
From Tuesday through Thursday, a GPD cold case training will be held at
the Outrigger Hotel in Tumon.
