I tried to explain the international date line to my little girl but she thinks that it’s some Internet dating service.
In the last months, I have been blessed to speak with people who have experienced the Hafa Adai ethic of you wonderful folks and most recently, former Governor Carl Gutierrez.
This brave and thoughtful man took a few minutes out of his day to phone my father — an 80 + veteran of the 3rd Marines and thank him for spending his youth in the cause of freedom. These old guys are leaving us at too great a rate and with too little notice.
I hope that my novel awakens some sense of their sacrifice and the intrinsic goodness of the people who never allow loyalty to diminish in anny manner or form — The great people of Guam!
