THE Guam Greyhound Park has completed a major upgrade and improvement to its facilities.
The Tamuning racetrack has completely enclosed its grandstand in glass, air conditioned the entire building, and upgraded food and beverage services.
The new facilities have been open since last week. Patrons can now enjoy a Mongolian barbecue at the PostTime restaurant, and watch thoroughbred Greyhound racing in cool comfort.
Also added is a bus stop at the facility, enabling passengers to disembark and enter the grandstand without walking from Chalan San Antonio.
John K. Baldwin, owner of the facility, said his company is excited over the improvements, coming as they did during the 30th year of the facility’s operations.
“We have tremendously loyal customers and tour operators who have assured us that Guam Greyhound patronage will increase substantially with these additions,” Baldwin said.
Guam Greyhound sought the approval of Guam’s voters last November to add legal slot machines to the facility, which has a pari-mutual gaming license.
That initiative was turned down, but what the company calls “a new, improved initiative” called the “Better Jobs for Guam Act” has already been approved for inclusion on the next general election ballot.
The greyhounds race five nights a week at Guam Greyhound Park, on Tuesdays and from Thursday through Sunday, with each evening’s first race going to the post at 7:30 p.m.
Doors are open for the Mongolian Barbecue meal patrons at 6 p.m. on race nights.
