VETERAN par buster Jess Wabol notched his second win in three weeks after ruling the Championship Flight of the 5th Annual Mt. Carmel School Golf Tournament last Saturday at the LaoLao Bay Golf Resort.
Wabol, who topped the NMC golfest on April 28 and was runnerup to Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho last year, tamed the west course of the LaoLao Bay firing a 2-under-par 70 for a one-shot win over Jeff Taylor.
Taylor finished with a 1-under -par 71, while Adam Hardwicke had a 1-over-par 73 to place third.
Other flight winners were Joey Dela Cruz, Rep. Arnold Palacios, David Santos, Terry Tudela and Juan Babauta.
Dela Cruz also posted a one-shot victory over Alex Sablan in the A Flight with the former hitting a 5-over-par 77 compared to the latter’s 6-over par 78.
James Lin completed the top three with his 7-over-par 79.
Palacios shot an 8-over-par 80 to rule the B Flight. There was a tie for second place between junior golfer Ryan Kim and Ed Tenorio with the tiebreak decided via a scorecard playoff on hole No. 16.
Kim birdied the par-5 568-yard No. 16 to claim the runnerup trophy, while Tenorio settled for third as he had a bogey on the playoff hole.
There was also a tie in first place in the C Flight with Santos winning in the tiebreak.
Santos had a birdie on the No. 16, while Arthur Camacho only saved par. Santos and Camacho had identical gross scores of 83. Pedro Arriola finished third with an 86.
For the third time, the winner of a flight was decided via a tiebreak with Tudela beating Bobbie Guerrero. Tudela had only a bogey on the No. 16, one shot better that Guerrero, who double bogeyed the tiebreak hole. Tudela and Guerrero shot a similar net 71 to force a deadlock. Kim Yang placed third with a 72.
In the Seniors Flight, Juan Babauta scored a net 69 to beat Alex Aquiningoc (70) and Bernard Gaffney (72).
Eighty golfers participated in the annual fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go to maintenance of the Mount Carmel Parish Church and its community activities.
