A 41-year-old woman was arrested
and brought to federal court yesterday for transporting a woman for prostitution.
Jun Wei Qin was ordered by U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge
Alex R. Munson to appear again in court today for arraignment.
She was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service after the
hearing yesterday.
Jun Wei Qin was indicted on two counts of foreign transportation for prostitution,
and foreign transportation of a person in execution of a fraud scheme.
The indictment stated that Jun Wei Qin, on March 2, willfully and knowingly
transported an individual, Lin Xiu Lan, with the intent that such
individual engage in prostitution and in sexual activity which would constitute
a criminal offense.
Jun Wei Qin on March 2, unlawfully, knowingly and willfully, having
devised a scheme and artifice to defraud and for obtaining money by means
of materially false and fraudulent pretenses, representations and promises,
transported and induced Lin Xiu Lan to travel and be transported in interstate
and foreign commerce in the execution and concealment of a scheme and
artifice to defraud such person of money and property having a value of
$5,000 and more.
The court document stated that Jun Wei Qin is employed by the Phoenix
Bar.
