THE Guam Police Department
yesterday remembered officers who lost their lives in the line of duty,
as well as those whose outstanding accomplishments have helped make the
community a better and safer place to live.
In celebration of Police Week 2007, GPD held a sunset command inspection
and a memorial service for officers who passed away serving the community.
Police Officer 3 Franklin E. Perez was named Police Officer of the
Year for his outstanding accomplishments and contributions to GPD.
Perez is assigned to the GPD Highway Patrol Division.
Carlos D. Griffith was designated Civilian Volunteer/Police Reserve
of the Year, while Dora Flores was named Civilian of the Year
for their commitment and dedication to GPD.
Gov. Felix P. Camacho said the community is forever indebted to the men
and women of GPD for their courage and commitment.
This morning, we take a moment to recognize the outstanding employees
of GPD who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make our community
a safer place for all of us, said Camacho during the award ceremony.
Roads in Hagatna were cordoned off by police to make room for canopies
and chairs for the 4:30 p.m. ceremonies. The roads reopened after the
ceremonies to allow traffic to flow smoothly.
The inspection is conducted to ensure that our troops are ready
to perform their duties and to be sure that our people are able and ready
to serve the public, said GPD Lt. Kim Santos.
A large number of police department personnel will attend cold case training
sessions at the Outrigger Hotel from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
According to Santos, two instructors from the joint Naval Criminal Investigative
Service Cold Case Homicide Division will be facilitating the sessions
for local and regional police officers over the next three days.
On Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Tiyan, in the Chief of Police courtyard,
the police department will hold a Police Week Fair. The pubic is invited
to attend.
