DESPITE the impending funding
cut, the Mayors Council of Guam remains upbeat with its job as it marked
its 30th anniversary yesterday.
The councils executive director, John Blas, said the organization
can make do with its limited budget and continue serving as the governments
direct link to the community.
The councils $7.5 million budget for 2007 will be cut by $79,000
under the revised budget Bill 74, which is awaiting the governors
action.
The rate of budget re--duc-tion might have a small impact on the
council, especially if the governor would exercise his 15 percent transfer
authority to help the council, Blas said.
But we will address the budget issue when the bill is signed into
law, said Blas in an interview after Gov. Felix P. Camacho signed
a proclamation in Adelup, recognizing the Mayors Council for providing
an important network of support for our village mayors.
The Mayors Council of Guam is a vital resource which supports the
critical administrative and logistical needs that allow our village mayors
to serve our people at the most fundamental levels, the governors
proclamation stated.
Blas said the anniversary celebration focuses on recognizing our
mayors and vice mayors for their services to Guam residents.
The council was created in 1977 to establish a cohesive group of
district leaders and administrators to effectuate intergovernmental communication
regarding sound administrative and fiscal policies aimed at improving
the quality of life for Guam residents, the council stated in a
press release.
