Committee to receive testimonies on 3 bills, 1 appointment

THE Legislative Committee on Judiciary, Natural Resources, Infrastructure, and Cultural Affairs will meet on May 22 at 2 p.m. at the Legislature’s Public Hearing Room to receive testimony on three bills and one appointment, according to a press release.
• The committee will receive testimony on the appointment of Maria Lourdes Sarthou Lacson to serve as a member of the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities. Gov. Felix P. Camacho appointed her on April 13 to serve a two-year term.
• Resolution 24 is related to recognizing the heroic efforts of Filipino-American Veterans of World War II, supporting the passage of the “Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2007,” and petitioning the 110th United States Congress to ensure passage of the Act. The resolution was introduced by Sen. James Espaldon, R-Tamuning.
• Bill 35 seeks to require the Department of Public Works and the Guam Environmental Protection Agency to follow Public Law 23-95 regarding the site for a new landfill, and to exclude the previously selected area of Dandan, as well as any proximate location partially or completely within the Inarajan River watershed as a site for a landfill. The bill was introduced by Sen. Tina Muna-Barnes, D-Mangilao.
• Bill 9 seeks to amend Section 40105(b) of Chapter 40, Title 7, Guam Code Annotated related to providing flexibility to the courts in the issuance of protective orders. It was also introduced by Espaldon.
