THE Philippine Amateur Basketball League was in action on Sunday having two feature games with the outstanding players getting a bouquet to give to their mothers for Mother’s Day. The day would begin with the (2–1) Budweiser Kings taking on the (0–3) National Office Supply.
The game would be a close one as Justin Andre led the way for the National Office Supply with 18 points. Andre would get help through Jeff Manalastas who added 14 points, but it would not be enough to dethrone the Kings as they won 61-59.
The Kings move to 3–1 on the season behind the scoring of Tony Borja with 15 points and Derrick Bollinger with 12 points.
The National Office Supply would watch their first win slip away as they fall to 0–4 on the season. In the second game of the day and the first of the two feature games on the day the (2–1) Argent Estates Realty team took on the (3–0) Ace Hardware Aces. The game would live up to the hype going in as the Argent Estates Realty would hand the Aces their first loss of the season winning 95-93.
The game would need extra time to finish this one as they went into overtime.
In overtime Argent Estates’ De Andre Walker would take over and lead his team to the victory. Walker would score a game high 34 points, and would be helped by Jason Johnson who had 32 points.
The Aces were led by JP Cruz with 33 points and Alfred Vitug with 22 points but the Aces would fall. With the win the Argent Estates Realty team moves to 3–1 and the Aces fall to 3–1. Both teams now trail the undefeated Sign By Dey Chargers by one game. The Guam Greyhounds National team also moved to 3–1 on the season as they defeated the Samurai Bombers easily taking the victory 65-38. The Greyhounds would see a balanced offense as they have done all year with EJ Calvo leading the way with 13 points and Willie Stinnett adding 11 points in the win. The Bombers were led by Mark Pough with 13 points and Percy Washington with 10 points but they were not able to defeat the Greyhounds. With the loss the Bombers along with the National Office Supply team are the only two teams to have not yet tasted victory. In the second feature game of the day the women would be in action as the Ace Hardware Nationals took on the Samurai Lady Bombers.
The Nationals would continue their dominance in the women’s division as they won 55-48. The Nationals were once again led by Ritalynn Anderson with 10 points. Maeann Pajaro would add nine points in the Nationals victory. In the last game of the day the Sign By Dey Chargers extended their record to 4–0 behind Jeff Williams and Allan Chang who scored 14 and 11 points respectively in the win. Ian Inocencio would score 13 points and Taylor Keony would add 11 points as the Jazzy Sport Sixers fell 62-56. The PABL will continue with games next Sunday at the St. John’s Gym.
