Variety News Staff

With the NBA playoffs going on, Guam is ready to catch its own playoff fever with three different playoffs beginning this week. The IIAAG sees two of its sports in Boy’s Volleyball and Girls Soccer begin their playoffs. Boy’s Volleyball began their playoffs on Friday with two opening games in which the Southern High Dolphins advanced past the Harvest Eagles and St. Paul defeated Guam High.
With those two games in the books the Boy’s Volleyball will continue on Tuesday with St. Paul and Southern advancing to face the two top teams this year.
The day is scheduled for four matches with Southern High taking on Simon Sanchez who only had one loss during the season. The John F. Kennedy Islanders will take on the George Washington Geckos who knocked off the Notre Dame Royals in their last game of the regular season giving them quite the boost going into the playoffs. In the third game Father Duenas will take on St. John’s and the last game will see St. Paul as they take on Notre Dame. All games will be played at 6:00 pm. The semi-finals will be on Thursday with the winner of Southern High vs. Simon Sanchez taking on the winner of John F. Kennedy vs. George Washington. The other semi-final will showcase the winner of Father Duenas vs. St. John’s as they take on the winner of St. Paul vs. Notre Dame. The championship and consolation games will be played on Tuesday, May 22 at the University of Guam field house.
In other playoff action the IIAAG Girls Soccer is set to get underway beginning on Thursday as (3–7–2) Guam High takes on (0–11) St. Johns in the opening match. The winner will then go on to face the top seed Notre Dame Royals, who were undefeated this year with a record of 10–0–1, in the first game on Saturday May 19th. In the other games on Saturday (5–4–3) George Washington will take on (4–4–3) Harvest. (2–9) John F. Kennedy will take on (5–2–4) Southern High at Southern. In the last game of the day the 4th seed in the Gadao division (4–4–4) Academy Of Our Lady Guam will take on the 1st seed out of the Taga division in the (9–1–1) Simon Sanchez Sharks on the neutral John F. Kennedy field. If Volleyball and Soccer are not you cup of tea then you can check out the Budweiser Baseball League as they also begin their playoffs with the opening game on Tuesday to determine the third and fourth place seeds as the Pepsi Giants take on the AK Islanders.
The winner will grab the third seed and will play the Bank of Guam Athletics on Friday, and the loser will fall to the fourth seed and will play the top seeded Guam Greyhounds on Thursday. Plus on Saturday the IIAAG will see the All-Island Track & Field get under way at Leo Palace starting at 1:00 pm. Regardless of what sport you enjoy chances are they are in their playoffs this week so show your support for your favorite team.
