By Kyle Terwilliger
Variety News Staff

THE Fourth Annual Tumon Bay Ocean Swim will kick off this Saturday, May 19. The swim will begin at 7:30 am in the clear warm waters of Ypao Beach.
Swimmers will follow a 3200 meter course across Tumon Bay, before turning a buoy and finishing at the Outrigger Hotel’s Kanton Tasi Beachside Pavilion. Featuring a special mystery guest starter, the event expects over 150 total participants this year, including swimmers from Japan, Australia, Central Northern Marianas Islands, and last years winner, from the U.S. Navy, Mark Reibel.
The ocean swimming event will continue to have special focus on the importance of water safety by donating the proceeds of the event to the Department of Mental Health’s youth for youth water safety program and the American Red Cross summer water safety clinic. The swim will also highlight the importance of an ecologically friendly environment, during a pre-race briefing at the Pacific Islands Club.
Entry deadline is Thursday and forms can be found at Hornet Sporting Goods in Tamuning. Entry fee is 30 US dollars for over 18 years of age and 20 US dollars for those swimmers who are 18 years of age and under. Online registration can be done at www.aquaticsguam.com. For more information call 649-7267.
