The National Nurses Week will be celebrated from May 6 to 12.
Last week President Remengesau signed Presidential Proclamation No.07-82, proclaiming a national nurses week.
The proclamation urged the community to celebrate the nursing’s accomplishments and nurse’s efforts to improve our health care system and show our appreciation for the nations’ nurses.
There are 120 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants in Palau.
The nurses will renew their pledges today at a gathering at the Belau National Hospital.
Josepha Tiobech said that there is still a shortage of nurses in Palau.
This year’s theme focuses on Nursing : "a profession and a passion" in celebration of the ways in which nurses strive to provide safe and high quality patient care and map out the way to improve the country’s health care system.
The proclamation said the nurses are very important part of the country’s primary and preventive health care.
The proclamation said that professional nursing has been demonstrated to be a very significant component in the safety and quality care of hospitalized patients.
It added that in the future the demand for nurses will be greater because of the increasing population .
