Two foreign nationals earlier
convicted of people trafficking will spend 20 years in jail.
Teng Feng Chiang and Bai Yue Wang were each sentence 20 years imprisonment
and $50,000 in fines.
Chiang and Wang were also ordered by Associate Justice Kathleen Salii
to pay restitution to the 10 victims in the amount of $18,611.07.
Lolita Pamintuan , the third foreign found guilty of people trafficking
was meanwhile sent to prison for a year and was asked to pay a fine of
$2,000.
Katherine Manio who was convicted of exploiting a trafficked person was
imposed a three-year jail sentence and $5,000 in fine.
Chiang and Wang were sentenced on charges of people trafficking, advancing
prostitution, exploiting a trafficked person, Violation of the Foreign
Investment Act, Violation of the Tax Code and Violation of labor laws.
Pamintuan was found guilty of people trafficking and advancing prostitution
while Manio was convicted of Advancing prostitution, exploiting a trafficked
person and Violation of Labor Laws and Regulation.
The four were immediately ordered to be incarcerated after the sentencing
hearing last May 8.
The four were also ordered deported after serving one third of their jail
terms provided that they have paid the fines.
Salii in her sentence and order said the defendants have the right to
appeal their conviction within 30 days.
Assistant Attorney General Erin Johnson said she is pleased to that the
criminals were put in jail.
As the four were being led from Judge Saliis courtroom, Wang allegedly
threatened one of the former Chinese waitresses of Carnival.
Wang allegedly threatened to retaliate against her former employee when
she returns to China.
