RAPHAEL Zapanta had a solid performance in the first three games to secure the Pepsi May Prince of the Lanes crown last Sunday at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Zapanta posted the best scores in the first three games to beat six other young keglers for the monthly plum.
Zapanta knocked down 165 pins in Game 1 and bowled even better in the next two games scoring 177 and 187 pinfalls.
After three games, Zapanta had earned 529 pinfalls for a 70-point lead over Ryan Gutierrez, who had scored 459 after three games. Zack Cruz knocked down 440 pins after three games, while Jared Gutierrez and Christielyn Camacho scored 428 and 426 pinfalls, respectively.
Zapanta struggled in the last game with 114 pinfalls for a total of 643, but his big lead after three games was enough to give him the monthly award.
Camacho had the best score in Game 4 with 198 pinfalls, but she settled for second place with 624 pinfalls.
In third spot was Ryan, who had 160 pinfalls in Game 4 for a total of 619, followed by Cruz (568), Jared (558), Mayanne McKenzie (497) and Marion McKenzie (428).
Zapanta, who posted a 160.75 average in four games, won $20 and a case of Selecta Ice Cream from Micronesia Brokers, Inc. for his first place finish.
The King and Queen of the Lanes May roll-offs were also held last Sunday with Robert Talavera and Elena Soll leading in their respective divisions.
Talavera scored 174, 224, 267 and 179 in Games 1 to 4 for a total of 844 pinfalls.
He was leading by 45 points over Paul Pangelinan, who scored 799 pinfalls.
Roman Borja is currently in third place with 769 pinfalls, followed by Kitz Barja (748) and Raymond Angeles (742).
Rounding out the top 10 are Raymond Zapanta (737), Jun Canillo (729), Percy Omechelang (719), Alex Cacdac (682) and Lito Teodoro (661). Three other bowlers joined last Sunday’s tournament.
Only five lady keglers competed for the Queen of the Lanes tiara last Sunday with Soll posting a total of 682 pinfalls.
Gloria Omechelang is currently in second place with 674 pinfalls, followed by Emi Williams (665), Gigi Zapanta (613) and Carol McKenzie (558).
The King and Queen of the Lanes were to be determined after last night’s game results.
The King and Queen monthly roll-offs are played over two days. Bowlers have the option to bowl on Sunday or Monday, but only the highest score is counted.
Last night’s results were unavailable at press time. If Talavera and Soll’s scores are unbeaten, they will get the monthly honors.
