THE Grand Mean Striking Machines snapped the Smiths Sonic Booms
winning streak, while Pacific Islands Clubs Pretty Incredible Chicks
notched their second win last Saturday in the Spring 2007 NMIFA Womens
Recreational League last Saturday at the Airport Field.
The Striking Machines forced a deadlock with the Booms, 3-all, while the
Chicks blanked Fiesta Fuerza, 2-0.
The draw ended the Booms three-game winning streak, but they still
lead the four-team field with a 3-0-2 win-loss-draw record. The Booms
earned a point for the draw and now have 11 points.
The Striking Machines, who have a 1-2-2 slate remain in third place with
five points.
Morgan Rose scored two of the Striking Machines three goals. Zoe
Jewell hit one on a header off a beautiful cross pass from Rose.
The Sonics Emily Gries also had two goals. She made the first one
with a corner kick bent, while the second one was a penalty kick given
to the Sonics after a Striking Machines player had a hand ball in the
box. Madison Smith hit the other goal for the Sonics in the second half
off a Ami Ridenour assist.
After a scoreless first half, Sarah Helbert hit two goals in the second
half to power the Pretty Incredible Chicks to their second win and strengthen
their hold to the No. 2 spot.
The Pretty Incredible Chicks improve to a 2-1-1 record and have eight
points.
Fiesta Fuerza absorbed their third loss in five games and has only two
points with only one game left in the regular season.
For the last game in the regular season this Saturday, the league will
return to the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
Fiesta Fuerza will meet the Booms in the first match, while the Striking
Machines will take on the Chicks in the second game.
The playoffs will start on May 26 with the top team after the regular
season fighting the No. 4 squad for the first finals berth and the No.
2 and 3 teams squaring for the second finals ticket.
The championship match is set for May 28 at the Oleai Field.
