THE Ford Rangers continue their uphill climb in the 2007 Budweiser Saipan
Major League baseball tournament after cruising to their third win in
a row last Friday at the Francisco Tan Ko Palacios Ballfield.
The Rangers latest victims were the Young Guns, as the former posted
an impressive 10-2 win to improve to a 5-3 record.
Last years runnersup to the Bud Kings are now in second place with
a 5-3 record. The Bud Kings remain undefeated in eight games, while the
Falcons are in third place with a 4-3 record, followed by the Masters
(4-4), the Young Guns (3-5) and the winless Korean Jaguars (0-9).
Chris Camacho led the Rangers fifth win, as he had nine strikeouts in
eight innings and allowed only six hits.
Camacho had six strikeouts in the first five innings, during which the
Young Guns failed to score a single run giving the Rangers a 6-0 lead.
The Young Guns only scored in the sixth and seventh innings nailing a
run apiece, but it was not enough to bring them back into the game.
The Young Guns fared miserably at the plate going 6-for-33 for a .181
batting average.
The Rangers had a decent performance at the plate hitting 13-for-42.
First baseman Craig Sanchez went 3-for-6 with a run, three singles and
three RBIs, while Franco Flores was 2-for-4 with a run, a single, a double
and an RBI.
The regular season of SML is expected to finish in two weeks with the
playoffs set to start on May 28.
Only the top four teams will advance to the playoffs.
The semis will be a best-of-three games, while the championship series
will be a best-of-five affair.
