Defending champion Peched
leaned on the endgame heroics of co-team captain Weston Ketebengang to
score a 74-72 victory over Meda last night in the 2007 NBL Season Playoffs.
Ketebengang finished the game with 17 points as he scored all of his nine
points in the fourth quarter from three-point range, including the winning
shot that gave the Division I champion a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three
semifinal series.
Game Two is set at 8 p.m. tomorrow night.
Also last night, Ngermid Rivals and Surangel Suns were still playing as
of presstime in the other best-of-three semifinal game.
Before the winning shot, Edson Chiokai gave Meda a 72-71 advantage as
he split his two foul shots but Ketebengang rescued Peched with a wide-open
triple from the right side with just over a minute left in the game.
Both teams failed to score after that play.
Peched too an 26-22 lead in the first quarter but the game was tied at
39-all in the second and 53-all in the third.
Team captain Sunshine Soalablai led Peched players with double digit scores
by finishing with 19, Weston 17, Joe Joe Roberts 13, Calson dulei 11 and
Russ 10.
Reigning MVP Lyndon Ngiramolau led Meda with 29 whiled Clint Mersai added
