EVERGREEN Technologies Inc.,
the firm that offers to turn the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.s used
oil into renewable energy, has finally submitted required documents to
CUC, according to its spokeswoman Pamela Mathis.
The firm wants to take care of the 326,000 gallons of used
oil stored in Tank 104 and 2,288 drums of used oil at the CUCs power
plant in Lower Base.
Mathis said the draft contract for the firms renewable energy proposal
is now under legal review.
Aside from clearing up the power plants surrounding area from oil
contamination, Evergreen will also produce, out of used oil, one megawatt
of energy that will be sold back to CUC for an average of 22.2 cents per
kilowatt.
The cleanup has already started, Mathis said, and the firm is now installing
temporary tanks for new used oil.
Evergreen offers two types of renewable energy generators to the CNMI
within 120 days of signing the deal: a slow speed diesel generator and
a steam boiler generator.
According to the firms president, John Jones, their energy plant
will feature a modern exhaust system to minimize pollution.
Evergreen, Mathis said, will be responsible for obtaining the required
federal permits.
